Use this space to talk about the action as it unfolds.You know the drill.This is now an open thread!The Panthers offensive line played great against the Patriots When I wrote earlier in the week about the injury to Matt Kalil being the best worst thing that could happen to the future of the offensive line, I didn’t expect to see the kind of immediate results I saw last night against the New England Patriots. I thought I might get a few glimmers of hope from guys like Taylor Moton, Jeremiah Sirles, Greg Van Roten, and even Blaine Clausell... but I didn’t expect for Cam Newton to walk away without being sacked a single time, and only pressured maybe once or twice.While the New England Patriots might not be a defensive line that causes your average offensive coach to lose a ton of sleep, the same would certainly be said about the Panthers offensive line coming into this contest. You’d expect a guy like Taylor Moton who didn’t get significant minutes last year, and has changed positions three times this preseason alone to have more growing pains... but he didn’t. Moton continued to show excellent technique like he has all preseason. He’s a patient blocker with a very good feel of where he is on the field Youth Customized Carolina Panthers Jerseys , he keeps a nice wide sturdy base, and he beats you with leverage and strength. He excels in an area that Matt Kalil has shown to struggle, which is being too upright, or over-committing to the outside speed rush. He showed a lot of people last night his NFL ceiling might be a lot higher than originally expected.Also deserving of praise is Greg Van Roten, yet another guy who didn’t have significant minutes last year but is making the most of his current opportunity. Runs off the left side tonight were very strong with him and Moton leading the way, and while there were a couple minor errors on the handling of some defensive line stunts, i was impressed to see them hold the line without a ton of help from a tight end or fullback (in several cases).Finally, we got a short look at Jeremiah Sirles as the right tackle before he left with a pulled hamstring, and then Blaine Clausell who replaced him. Certainly we can’t afford to lose anyone else, or we’ll be signing guys off the street, but like I said before, we are learning a lot about what our younger guys are capable of.
