Former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel says he is making a football comeback.
Manziel announced Wednesday that he’ll participate in the developmental Spring League in Austin http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/anthony-zettel-jersey , Texas, which will play from March 28 to April 15. The league is designed for players hoping to impress NFL scouts. The league confirmed Manziel will participate.
Article continues below ... Manziel won the Heisman as a freshman with Texas A&M in 2012 and left school after his sophomore season for the NFL. He was drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Browns, but was cut in 2016 and hasn’t played since.
In a recent interview with ”Good Morning America”, Manziel said he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has stopped drinking alcohol. In 2016, a domestic assault charge against Manziel in Dallas was dismissed after Manziel took an anger management course and participated in the NFL’s substance-abuse program. He was also suspended four games for a substance-abuse violation even though he wasn’t under contract.
”Can’t wait to get back on the field and show NFL scouts what I can do!” Manziel tweeted Wednesday.
Manziel played nine games with the Browns in two seasons, passing for 1,675 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
”Football has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Sometimes you take for granted how much you value something until it’s gone. My goal is to make it back to the NFL and I realize I have to earn that privilege,” Manziel said in a statement provided by the Spring League.

CLEVELAND (AP) – Terry Francona loves to talk about his dad. Their relationship went way beyond baseball.
One a Cleveland Indians player, the other the team’s adored manager. Father and son.
Tito and the kid who became Tito.
John ”Tito” Francona, who proudly watched his son Terry follow his footsteps to the major leagues, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday night in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. He was 84.
Francona’s passing cast a pall over Cleveland’s training camp in Goodyear, Arizona, as pitchers and catchers reported Wednesday. Terry Francona, who has been affectionately called ”Tito” for years in a respectful bow to his dad, will leave the team for several days to be with family.
There will be private services to celebrate the elder Francona’s life.
”We’re all incredibly saddened by Tito’s passing,” Indians president Chris Antonetti said. ”Not only was he a really good player in our franchise history but he was a friend to so many of us. There have been so many great things for the organization and for me personally. Having Terry here for the last five years, one of the most meaningful things for me was to get to know his dad and build a friendship with him.
”He was such a warm, thoughtful, exuberant person that brightened every room he walked into. To have the opportunity to visit with him when he’d come into town, to hear his stories, to see how he and Terry connected was really meaningful. He will be missed by so many of us.”
Benning has served four years in the role since joining the Canucks in May 2014.
”I’m grateful to the Aquilini family and to Trevor Linden for the commitment they’ve made to me and for their confidence in our long-term vision for the Vancouver Canucks,” Benning said in a statement.
”I’m excited about the direction of our team and the depth and talent we continue to build.”
Prior to joining the Canucks, Benning spent seven seasons as an assistant general manager with the Boston Bruins, being part of a Stanley Cup champion in 2011. He also served as Buffalo’s director of amateur scouting for 12 years.
Benning played 12 NHL seasons as a defenseman with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver.

Morgan Brian and Rose Lavelle are returning to the U.S. women’s national team ahead of next month’s SheBelieves Cup after dealing with injuries last year.
Brian, in France playing for Lyon, will not take part in training camp in Orlando, Florida, but will be available for the SheBelieves Cup roster. Brian had knee and groin injuries last year, while Lavelle struggled with a hamstring problem. Both missed last month’s training camp and it was unclear how much Lavelle would be able to participate.
The 26-player roster was announced by coach Jill Ellis. The list will be cut to 23 for the tournament, which opens on March 1 against Germany in Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to the top-ranked U.S. team and No. 2 Germany, the tournament includes No. 3 England and No. 6 France. Matches also will be played in Orlando and Harrison, New Jersey.
The roster includes newcomer Hailie Mace, a UCLA senior. Mace had 15 goals and three assists last season for the Bruins, who played in the College Cup final.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Avery Williamson remembers walking up to C.J. Mosley at the NFL combine five years ago, eager to meet the playmaking Alabama linebacker.Williamson had watched Mosley from the other sideline as an opponent at Kentucky, so he figured his personality off the field might match his big-hitting style on it.“He just said, ‘What’s up?’ That’s it,” Williamson recalled with a laugh. “He was so quiet, he didn’t say too much. I might’ve talked to him after a game or something, but yeah http://www.houstontexansteamonline.com/kahale-warring-jersey , we knew each other, but we never really talked.“But he’s a nice guy, though.”All these years later, Williamson is finally finding out what makes Mosley tick — and vice versa — as the two prepare to enter the season as the New York Jets‘ starting inside linebackers.“He’s a southern guy, I’m a southern guy,” Mosley said. “You know, SEC, SEC. You can always match those little things. So far, we’re just kind of learning our play style. My main thing with the linebackers — MIKE and WILL — make sure we’re talking and we’re on the same page.”Mosley was one of the NFL’s biggest free-agent signings this offseason, joining the Jets on a five-year, $84 million deal after five seasons with Baltimore. The Ravens desperately wanted to keep him, but acknowledged the Jets’ offer was too steep. There were reports coach Adam Gase wasn’t a fan of throwing all that money at Mosley — or the four-year, $52.5 million contract New York gave to running back Le’Veon Bell. Gase, however, has reiterated that he’s happy to have both players on his team, and has high expectations for them.“It doesn’t matter,” Mosley said. “I’m here now. He pretty much said don’t listen to the media. It doesn’t really matter what anybody says. It doesn’t affect what I do on the field.”Mosley’s resume speaks for itself: He has had at least 100 tackles in every season but 2016, when he missed two games with an injury and finished with 92. Mosley, who turns 27 on June 19, also has nine career interceptions, 8 1/2 sacks and six forced fumbles.More than the numbers, though http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/bobby-okereke-jersey , it’s the intangibles and credibility he instantly brings to Gregg Williams’ unit.“He’s just the quarterback of the defense,” defensive lineman Leonard Williams said. “He’s the voice of the defense. We’ve been reiterating that whatever he says goes. If sometimes the offense is going too fast and we’re having trouble lining up, C.J. will just say: ‘OK, run this and we’ll all be on the same page. Let’s do it.'”Mosley’s arrival has had ripple effects on the Jets. Williamson was previously the middle linebacker and called the defensive signals last season under then-coach Todd Bowles. Now, Williamson will be the WILL (weakside linebacker), a role previously filled by Darron Lee, New York’s underperforming 2016 first-round draft pick who was shipped to Kansas City last month for a sixth-rounder.“He doesn’t say too much,” Williamson said of Mosley. “He just says the play. We’re definitely starting to get used to each other and doing things out there and helping each other out as much as possible.”Mosley is all business on the field, and is perfectly fine letting others, such as safety Jamal Adams, do the yapping.“I’m more of a lead-by-example guy, so any time he wants to talk or anybody wants to talk, I’m all for it,” Mosley said. “But if I feel I need to say something, give a little pep talk, then I’ll just say it. As long as we’re all communicating with each other, then we’re all good.”Adams recalled that during the Pro Bowl in Orlando, Florida, in January, he went up to Mosley and told him it would be great if they could someday line up together in the Jets’ defense.“Yeah, I remember that,” Mosley said http://www.jacksonvillejaguarsteamonline.com/jawaan-taylor-jersey , smiling. “And when I was going through free agency, he texted me like, ‘We’d be that great tandem.’ I’m not saying that’s what made me come here, but he’s definitely a great player.”Adams thought the same of Mosley, of course. And, now, he’s beginning to see it on a daily basis.“Obviously, he’s a great leader, but he’s a guy that can move around and make plays,” Adams said. “He’s a linebacker that can cover, a linebacker that can hit.”Added D-lineman Leonard Williams: “He’s an old-school linebacker, like he can come downhill and play the run and he can also play the pass. I think the biggest attribute is he’s smart.”In other words, Mosley is exactly as advertised.“There’s a lot we’ve still got to learn,” Mosley said. “But the first few weeks, it’s been fun to watch and be a part of.”NOTES: Gase canceled the final minicamp practice Thursday and instead brought the players to a Topgolf facility in New Jersey for a team-building activity. … Mosley has enjoyed having his younger brother Jamey — also a linebacker — in camp after he was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama. “I’m not trying to do too much, extra coaching and all that,” C.J. Mosley said. “But if I see something I feel (he) can do a little better as far as technique on special teams or as far as his position, I give him a little bit here and there. We watch film a little bit together, go over some plays. But other than that, I kind of just let him be a rookie. He’s got to go through some of his own things on his own.”
